James Clapperton

James Clapperton ble født i Aberdeen i Skottland i 1968. Han har studert komposisjon under Philip Grange og Michael Finnissy. I senere år har han fullført sin andre doktorgrad i russiske studier ved Universitetet i Edinburgh. Avhandlingen baserte seg på en rekke intervjuer gjort med overlevende etter beleiringen av Leningrad. Som komponist har James gjort bestillingsverk for mange ensembler og festivaler. Hans ferskeste arbeider innbefatter verk for storskala ensemble ved tittel Konstantin for AJO Ensemble, og Kali and Gillichrist: A Viking Saga for cello, piano og live-elektronikk. Han jobber for øyeblikket med et bestillingsverk for akkordeon og ensemble som skal urfremføres i Moskva av Sergei Tchirkov.

In later years he completed a second doctorate in Russian Studies at Edinburgh University. The thesis was based on a series of interviews he conducted with survivors of the Siege of Leningrad. As a composer James has received commissions from multiple ensembles and festivals. Recent works include a large scale ensemble work called Konstantin for AJO Ensemble and Kali and Gillichrist: A Viking Saga for cello, piano and live electronics. He is currently working on a commission for accordion and ensemble to be premiered later in Moscow by Sergei Tchirkov.
