Bergen Kunsthall’s presentation of the London based artist Beatrice Gibson takes the form of both an exhibition, featuring a new film installation, as well as an extensive programme of talks, music and screenings, developed together with Borealis. As well as the screening during the festival of Deux Soeurs Qui Ne Sont Pas Sours (Two Sisters who are Not Sisters, 2018) and an evening of performance, Sounding Bodies, the exhibition at Bergen Kunsthall features the film I Hope I’m Loud When I’m Dead (2018), developed together with two of the most significant living poets in the US, CAConrad and Eileen Myles.

I Hope I’m Loud When I’m Dead starts with material shot on the evening of the 45th American presidential inauguration in January 2017 and weaves together CAConrad and Myles’ words alongside those of fellow poets Audre Lorde, Alice Notley, and Adrienne Rich. Exploring poetry as a means to reckon with the present, I Hope I’m Loud When I’m Dead is a deeply personal work, one which seeks out the power of ritual, and casts the poet as a prophet, fit to navigating an alternative path in times of perilous authority. Accompanied by a Pauline Oliveros soundtrack, the film is shown in an installation together with two video portraits of Myles and CAConrad.

The exhibition is a collaboration of Bergen Kunsthall, Borealis – a festival for experimental music and Camden Arts Centre, London.
