Second Round of Borealis Ung Komponist
Bringing together four bright compositional minds, a quartet of saxophone blowers and a gang of internationally renowned composer-mentors, Borealis Ung Komponist returns to breathe disruptive life in to grassroots new-music making in the West of Norway. For the culmination of our 2019 mentor scheme, Bergen based Saxifraga Quartet will perform new work by Rakel Nystabakk, Harald Jordal Johannessen, Alexander Fiske Fosse and Stephan Meidell.
Since summer 2018 these four emerging Norwegian composers have been working closely with mentors Øyvind Torvund, Maja S. K. Ratkje, Jessie Marino and Juliana Hodkinson to develop four new pieces. Inspired by the legacy of the late composer Morten Eide Pedersen, Borealis Ung Komponist is a year long project bringing together different musical expressions, discussion, collaboration, and mentoring, all leading towards the creation of new work for performance at the festival.
