NEW FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
The board of the Borealis Festival for Contemporary Music is pleased to announce that Alwynne Pritchard has accepted the position as Borealis' new Artistic Director. Dr. Pritchard will replace Nicholas Møllerhaug, who has been with the festival since it was established.
- Alwynne Pritchard presented sound ideas for further development of
Borealis as a festival, says Borealis' chairwoman Monica Salthella. - It was
also of great importance to us how she appreciates and wants to carry on
Borealis' current artistic profile.
Alwynne Pritchard was born in Glasgow in 1968 and is educated as a composer
and musicologist at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Academy of
Music in London and the University of Bristol. Over the last decade and a
half Alwynne's music has been performed by leading players and ensembles
throughout Europe and America. In 2005 she formed the Bergen/London-based
improvisation quintet FAT BATTERY (www.fatbattery.com
http://www.fatbattery.com/> ) and in 2006 the duo Ding Dong
(www.dingdongism.de <http://www.dingdongism.de/> ) with Berlin-based
musician Guido Hennebohl came into being. For the past seven years Alwynne
has taught composition at Trinity College of Music in London, worked as a
project leader for the BIT20 Ensemble's music education projects in Norway
and regularly presented programmes for BBC Radio 3. Pritchard will now
settle in Bergen.
