«England and the English. As a rule they will refuse even to sample a foreign dish, they regard such things as garlic and olive oil with disgust, life is unlivable to them unless they have tea and puddings.»
– GEORGE ORWELL
The world has changed a great deal since George Orwell lamented the culinary limitations of the English, but to this day, it is a kingdom synonymous with the intricate rituals of afternoon tea. Served with sandwiches, pastries and scones in the traditional way, the Borealis tea party is the perfect way, highly civilized and deliciously cozy, to enjoy the afternoon’s events. Author Cesilie Holck will begin with a reading, followed by Alwynne Pritchard’s pre-concert talk with festival composer Michael Finnissy, whose music will be performed by POLYGON. Do come and join us in celebrating one of England’s best-loved institutions and remember ‘if a man has no tea in him, he is incapable of understanding truth and beauty’.
