Ian Pace: Politics & Piano

The renowned British pianist and musicologist Ian Pace comes to Bergen for the first time in seven years to perform a programme of radical British piano music – including works of Brian Ferneyhough, James Dillon, Alwynne Pritchard and Richard Barrett – and also to give a talk on the grave situation facing the arts and humanities in Britain today following the election of a Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition in 2010. He considers in historical context how a variety of different factors – including ideologies emerging from the political left as well as right – have combined to produce a situation where the possibility of a non market-beholden approach to cultural production looks under threat, and as such music of comparable contemporary relevance to that which he will play had in its own time become an increasingly rare commodity. Drawing upon both political and aesthetic issues whose remit run well beyond the boundaries of his own country, Ian Pace will give an evening of both sounds and ideas to stimulate thought and meaningful critical thinking.

Wine will be served.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vin vil bli servert.
