Opportunities for KMD students and Bergen based artists, composers and musicians!

1) Get an insight in to the composition and work methods of cross disciplinary music and art project with Duo Hellqvist/Amaral.

2) Meet instrument builder, sound artist and composer Bryan Jacobs as he creates kinetic scultures that act as musical instruments – motors, controllers, arduinos – each object will be used in the opening concert at the festival.

3) Take part in Icelandic composer collective S.L.A.T.U.R’s Radical Hospitality project – part performance, part social action, part composition!

Duo Hellqvist / Amaral
This duo works in the intersection of performance, composition and visual presentation, and is one of the most interesting performance duos working at in Norway. At Borealis they present their cross-disciplinary project Impossible Situations – you can get an insight into the proces.

Thursday 8th March
Time: 1500-1630
Venue: Rekstensamlingene
Max. 10 participants
Perfect for: Composition, performance and visual arts students (or students from related art forms interested in cross-disciplinary work)
Content: Meeting with Duo Hellqvist/Amaral, set designer and architect Filippa Berglund and sound director Max Sauer. They will talk about how the program for this project Impossible Situations was put together, the conceptual work prior to the composition of the pieces, how the context of the venue (Tårnsalen) influenced their artistic decisions on the use of space and on the visual dimension of the performance, and how they plan the setup at the venue and so on.

Max. 10 participants
Perfect for: Composition, performance and visual arts students (or students from related art forms interested in cross-disciplinary work)
Content: Open rehearsal of new works by Daniel Moreira and Catherine Lamb, with the composers present.
(Please note: interested students are welcome to come at 1100 already if they would like to follow the setting up of the concert)

Bryan Jacobs
American instrument builder, sound artist and composer Bryan Jacobs will be constructing kinetic sculptures that act as musical instruments.

Friday 2nd March & Saturday 3rd March
Time: TBC
Venue: WRAP
Depending on how many are interested in this project, a formal workshop could be arranged.
Perfect for: Students, musicians, artists, people that build stuff.
Content: Motors, controllers, arduinos – each sculpture will be used in the opening concert at the festival. Bryan has an open workshop at WRAP, if you are interested in his practice, sign up and we can make arrangements. If you would like to assist in the building of the instruments let us know.

RADICAL HOSPITALITY
The culmination of a yearlong project from members of the Icelandic mcomposer collective S.L.A.T.U.R.

Variable days between 5th-11th March
Venue: Bergen sentrum

S.L.A.T.U.R. are looking for performance/experimental/weird-music lovers to take part in their project, which is part performance, part social action, part composition. It involves costumes, music, and being in public.
