Fredrik Rysjedal

Fredrik Rysjedal is a Norwegian independent comic artist based in Bergen, who focuses on self publication and performative comic art. He makes both documentary and fictional works, but also enjoys making experimental comics in addition to traditional narratives. Fredrik has a PhD in Design from the University of Bergen, Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, where he did artistic research into the use of the moving image in digital comics. In his comic performances he screens his comics live while reading them, accompanied by musicians. Some of his work include Psst! at The National Theatre in Bergen in 2019 – a scenic concert for children with percussion, music and video, created in collaboration with Øyvind Skarbø, Øyvind Hegg-Lunde. He has also created animation for the projection and performance Hans og Grete at Bergen National Opera in 2017, directed by James Bonas. Fredrik has a central role in the fanzine community in Bergen and is one of the initiators behind Bergen Art Book Fair.
