Anahita Abbasi

Anahita Abbasi is an Iranian composer of acoustic and electroacoustic music. Her music has been described as a dizzyingly sophisticated reverie with dense and pulsating textures. She has previously studied composition, with composer Beat Furrer amongst others, and music theory, at University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. She has worked closely with various master composers and musicians such as Georges Aperghis, Franck Bedrossian, Philippe Leroux, Francesco Filidei and Raphael Cendo. Her music has been featured in various countries in Europe, USA and Asia. In 2013 she co-founded Schallfeld – Ensemble for Contemporary Music and Sound Art in Graz, Austria. In 2014 she received a working grant from Experimentalstudio des SWR in Freiburg, Germany, and in 2015 she was the winner of the ASCAP Young Composers Award. She is currently residing in San Diego, USA and pursuing her Phd in Composition with Rand Steiger at the University of California San Diego.
