Bastard Assignments are Timothy Cape, Edward Henderson, Caitlin Rowley and Josh Spear, four composer-performers making experimental music. They work collaboratively and have developed a shared practice encompassing concert music, movement work, online pieces, text, video, improvisation and performativity. The members met in 2012, studying composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and started organising performances of their own work and providing a platform for other artists in London. The group has been described as “one of the most exciting forces in contemporary music” by Financial Times, and "a welcome reminder of the value of risk in artistic creation” by Neue Zeitschrift für Musik.
They have performed around England, Germany, USA and Scandinavia, and both performed live and created recordings for various programmes on BBC Radio, as well as for German radio channel Deutschlandfunk.
