Josh Spear

Joshua Spear is a composer-performer, sound designer and researcher from England. His portfolio spans experimental composition, performance and sound installations. His background is equally varied, with Composition and 20th Century Analysis from the University of Manchester, Filmmaking at London Film Academy, and a Master of Music with Merit from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, where he focused on Experimental Composition, Orchestration and Electronic Music. His academic pursuits culminated in a PhD in 2021, in Artistic Research at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, which dealt with Composing Together and Not Together: Intimacy as a Condition for Collaboration.

More recently, he has developed sound designs for numerous projects, and performed at the Copenhagen Opera Festival, BBC Radio 3 and the Venice Biennale, amongst others. He has received prestigious awards, including The Scotsman Edinburgh Fringe First Award for Subject Matter , and a writing grant from Dramatikkens Hus for the lipsync work How now brown cow .
