Kari Beate Tandberg

Kari Beate Tandberg is a composer from Asker outside Oslo. The Universe, body, natural phenomena and literature are sources of inspiration for her music. She focuses on how visual impressions and impulses can form the basis for a sonorous, musical expression. She enjoys composing for acoustic instruments, for the human voice, and has also made electro-acoustic music. Her works have been performed by leading orchestras and ensembles in Norway, and has been played in Japan, Germany, Belgium and the Nordic countries. In 1995 she received 1st prize in the international Fanny Mendelssohn competition, and in 2024 the double bass concerto Dét, with soloist Marius Flatby, was nominated for Work of the Year by the Norwegian Society of Composers. In 2007, Kari Beate gained a PhD in composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music as part of the national research programme Artistic Development.
