The Gong Strikes One consists at its core of Chan Chi-kong and King-chi Lee, and is a group founded in 2012 in Hong Kong. They specialise in traditional Chinese theatrical music and embrace a wide range of performance, spanning from concerts, storytelling, theatre and improvisation.
Their debut theatre work, I, Wu Song from 2017 is a wordless one-man Chinese Opera, exploring the very essence of operatic movements and music. Since then they have devoted themselves to productions of a wide variety of creative research projects. Recent projects include an online library of newly written music based on musical styles and dramatic needs of traditional Chinese theatres, and an interactive theatre work exploring footwork of the Cantonese opera.
