Andrea Spreafico

Andrea Spreafico is a writer and director, originally from Ravenna, Italy, based in Bergen since 2008. His artistic interests focus on the linguistic and semantic dimensions of cultural topics, exploring how different forms of language—physical, musical, written, spoken, or spatial—interact with the subject matter. This fascination with the efficiency and complexity of language drives his interdisciplinary, multilayered works, which have been described as “a persistent duality of calm and unrest, of the superficial and the detailed, of suggestion and clarity, and in all that, the humor about all the seriousness.”

Before becoming an artist, Spreafico earned a PhD in the History of Philosophy from the University of Bologna, and the University of Reims, and studied Art and Public Space at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. He is currently Professor of DAV/Performance at the Bergen School of Architecture.
