Bergen Strings

Bergen Strings is a collective of freelance string players, known for their high quality and artistic versatility.

Unlike traditional chamber groups, Bergen Strings does not consist of a fixed ensemble, but of a diverse group of highly skilled string musicians who are assembled in different constellations. This flexible structure allows Bergen Strings to offer everything from an intimate solo or duo performance to a full string ensemble. The model makes them particularly well suited for composers who want to use string instruments in a variety of formats and contexts.

This dynamic approach has placed Bergen Strings at the center of a wide range of artistic projects across genres and settings – from concert halls and recording studios to more unconventional spaces such as warehouses. The collective fully utilizes Bergen’s rich freelance music scene, with musicians regularly performing with leading institutions such as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Den Nationale Scene, and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

Bergen Strings actively promotes new music, collaborating with composers both nationally and internationally to support living composers and premiere new works. Through these collaborations, the collective plays a key role in advancing contemporary music and showcasing innovative compositions.
