Håkon Mørch Stene

Håkon Mørch Stene is a Norwegian, award-winning percussionist specializing in contemporary and early music. From 2010 to 2017, he was affiliated with the Norwegian Academy of Music for doctoral and postdoctoral research in artistic development, with the projects This is Not a Drum – Towards a Post-Instrumental Practice and Music with the Real. For over 15 years, Stene has been one of Norway’s leading percussionists, with an extensive international career. He has performed at festivals, on radio, and on television across Europe, North America, and Asia with ensembles such as asamisimasa, Pantha du Prince, Nils Økland Band, Rolf Lislevand Ensemble, Klangforum Wien, and Barokksolistene, as well as as a soloist with Ensemble Modern, London Sinfonietta, Oslo Sinfonietta, and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has also participated in numerous recordings for labels including ECM, Rough Trade, and Hubro, earning four Norwegian Grammy Awards (Spellemann). Since 2017, he has been Professor of Percussion at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany.
