Jaleh Negari

Jaleh Negari is a Copenhagen-based drummer and sound artist. She is the Borealis Artist in Residence for 2025/2026. Alongside her work as a solo artist and as a member of the free jazz noise band Selvhenter, her compositional practice spans audiovisual installations as well as collaborations in dance and choreography. She is one of the founders of the label and artist collective Eget Værelse.

Fascinated by ambiguity and the interplay of opposites, Negari experiments with methods and media, guided by her interest in interdisciplinary and cross-sensory exchanges between the visual and the sonic. She builds her works from simple lines, textures, and repetitive patterns, seeking new connections through unexpected relationships. Negari’s practice encompasses instrumental and electronic music, graphic scores and painting, multichannel sound works, and performance art.

Her visual art is created using ink, charcoal, and acrylic on paper and foil, while her music combines drums, synthesizers, samples, and field recordings in a setup that explores cyclical and linear movements of difference and repetition.

Negari has released two solo albums, most recently Weaver~ in 2021, which is based on translations of field recordings into graphic scores and onward into new music.
