Propan

Propan is a duo that, since its start in 2011, has developed a focused and seamless musical interaction, exploring the different roles and possibilities of the voice. Through continuous work, the duo has established weight within their field and has surprised both audiences and critics with their daring approach to music.

Open improvisations and compositions form the backbone of Propan’s sound. Voices are deconstructed and reconstructed from detailed sound cells, which reemerge as textures, catchy melodies, and grooves – both acoustically and through amplification and effects. Drones, sound layers, and vocals merge to create a platform open to the listeners’ interpretations. In this way, Propan has established a fresh and exploratory sound.

The duo has written two commissioned works, Swagger (Femme Brutal Festival, 2016) and Big Fish (Punkt, 2024), released four albums, composed music for theater and two short films, and arranged a minifestival Dream Nights. In addition, they maintain an extensive concert activity both in Norway and internationally.
