Risten Anine Gaup

Risten Anine Gaup is a Sámi activist, duojár, cultural educator, artist, and musician from Guovdageaidnu/Gratangen. Raised within a vibrant joik tradition, she has performed joik, theatre, and storytelling since childhood.

As a cultural educator, Gaup works actively to preserve and strengthen Sámi language, culture, and traditions. She has taught theatre and joik to Sámi children and youth, created storytelling performances with joik and dramatization, and led workshops in Sámi language and joik for both children and adults.

Gaup is a project assistant at the Arctic University Museum of Norway, where she helps preserve, make accessible, and publish the historic Sámi joik archive.

Alongside this, she is an active performing artist and musician in a number of Sámi music projects and stage productions, including Hyl i hælen and Vástádus eana. She also appeared as an actor in the award-winning NRK series Makta, and made her film debut in Eallogierdu / The Tundra Within Me.

Gaup is deeply engaged in Sámi Indigenous rights and environmental issues, both personally and through the music and art project OZAS, which she runs together with her sister Sara Marielle Gaup.
