Silje Sandodden Kise

Silje Sandodden Kise is a Bergen-based scenographer, costume designer, and performance maker whose work spans theatre, music based projects, contemporary dance, and opera. Since 2008, she has created more than forty productions across stages such as Den Nationale Scene, Bergen International Festival, The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, Det Vestnorske Teatret, Teater Vestland and more.

Her artistic practice is rooted in sustainability as a guiding principle. Kise explores how art can contribute to a more sustainable society by shifting focus away from material consumption and toward shared live experiences. She approaches scenography as visual dramaturgy, crafting immersive audience encounters through carefully considered design choices. Her work often intertwines visual and music elements, where the auditive and visual aspects resonate with and transform one another.

This focus, combined with sustainability, has been evident in projects such as the critically acclaimed dance performance Vesenet, the concert performance Sustain and Hammock Concert, which also featured Benedicte Maurseth.

Alongside her artistic practice, Kise is an active advocate for structural change toward a green transition in the Norwegian performing arts sector, work for which she has received several theatre awards.
