Composer, sound artist and musician Raven Chacon returns to Borealis with a new work for BIT20 Ensemble! Using voice, field recordings and instruments, this new commission sees Chacon combining his solo career in noise and electronic music with his extensive experience in composing chamber music – a combination he rarely employs.
Chacon is from Fort Defiance, Navajo Nation residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico from where he creates work that straddles ideas of time and silence, sonic textures, unique landscapes and political ideals. In this new work Chacon combines his long experience in composing chamber music with his career as a performer of noise and electronic music.
When Chacon first came to Bergen for Borealis in 2017 he brought these two sides of his practice – a string quartet, and a noise set. For the first time he combines both of these facets of his work into one piece, which premiers in Åsane Kulturhus alongside a program of his existing works for classical instruments.
