This year’s Borealis and Bergen Kunsthall collaboration presents a night of performance unfolding across the public spaces of the Kunsthall through sounds and bodies. The three-act evening brings together artists who step between worlds of sound, music and performance, exploring archive and identity, collective mourning and intuitive tendencies.

Cellist Judith Hamann presents their new work Desire Paths, commissioned for the INA GRM acousmonium, and presented here as an intimate work for cello and multichannel speakers. Exploring tending and care practices, the work reiterates unspoken actions to forge a sonic in-between space, a care worn track of repeated footsteps. Performer caner teker, together with their musical collaborator Nazanin Noori invites us into Grounds for Refusal a space where the gaze is shattered and representational politics are overcome, to ask which bodies are considered worth living and which are worth lamenting. Artist, musician and composer Maya Al Khaldi مايا الخالدي presents her work Other World, drawing on lyrics, melodies, or recordings from the audio archive of the traditional Palestinian music of the Popular Art Center in Ramallah. Together with qanun player and producer Sarouna سارونا they reclaim folkloric music, in a dynamic combination with electronics, to imagine a sonic future.

Presented in collaboration with Bergen Kunsthall.
Judith Hamann – Desire Paths is part of New Perspectives for Action. A project by Re-Imagine Europe, co-funded by the European Union.
