Artists from Palestine, Indonesia and Denmark converge on Bergen Kjøtt in a night of noisy sonic experimentation!

Intense, layered electronics and voice – Borealis presents the Norwegian premiere of a new work by multifaceted Palestinian artist Dakn داكنْ. Taking place in the opposite of an “imagined present”, when much of the world has fallen victim to the wicked, Heart Gate is the name of this journey that slows down time and space to feel the extremities of this place in which we now live.

Danish quartet Selvhenter create an ecstatic, physical experience of sound composed of polyrhythms, acoustic and electric melodies, heavy music and improvised beauty. Selvhenter is drummers Jaleh Negari and Anja Jacobsen, saxophonist Sonja LaBianca and trombonist Maria Bertel. Together they create a total sound where an improvised free jazz approach collides with experimental electronic music and avant-garde noise/post-punk sonorities.

Young Indonesian musicians Yogi and Barga use Balinese white/black magic as a spirit in their experimental electronic-gamelan duo Kadapat. Combining the rigorous traditional gamelan training of their upbringing with urban culture, technology, and Balinese cosmopolitanism their complex hybrid, equal parts noise, rave and ceremony, straddles the line between transcendental cosmology and urban legend.

Presented in collaboration with BEK – Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts & Another Sky Festival
Heart Gate commissioned by BEK – Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts in collaboration with Another Sky Festival, a new London-based festival celebrating experimental music from the SWANA (South West Asia & North Africa) region and diaspora.
