At Sardinen USF, the inimitable quartet Tøyen Fil og Klafferi brings to the stage a curious concert program of two new works: A Decade Dancing in the Eternal Echo by Martin Taxt and Sister of simple song by the duo Propan. The two compositions explore and expand the soundscapes of fellowship and togetherness. While Taxt’s work transforms Sardinen USF into an imagined loft in Greenwich Village sometime in the early 1970s, Propan’s engagement with the six voices in the group aims to create a form of kinship over the course of their collaborative process. Small sonic details are integral in both of the new works – the listener is welcomed to a space which seems both familiar and alien; and sometimes both mechanical and human all at once. Taxt’s work utilises the potentials of loop pedals, amplifiers and contact microphones to create the imaginary landscape. In contrast, Propan’s work is inspired by elements of singer-songwriter ballads and folksongs from the 60’s and 70’s, particularly by Anne Briggs, Shirley Collins, Dolly Collins, Sibylle Baier and Linda Perhachs. The duo explores the encounter between this musical logic and their own, more sonically driven approach.
Together, these two works invite the audience to experience the delicate interplay of sound, space, and human connection in entirely new ways.
