Welcome to Bergen and Borealis 2025!
You’ll find us at Festival Hub Mat & Prat (Teatergaten 43) during the festival! Stop by to pick up your festival wristband, buy tickets, merch and records from festival artists and get information about the programme. Delicious lunch dishes from around the world, cakes and coffee will be served. Local community radio Vers Libre will also be broadcasting live from Mat & Prat (13–15 March, 11.00–12.30) with festival artists as guests and great music. So come by and get into the festival vibe!

All our concerts, performances, listening experiences and family events are spread out over 14 different venues during the festival’s five days. This page provides practical information about all of our venues, as well as tickets, age limits and hotel deals – as we want you to experience the best of Borealis and Bergen.

TICKETS
AGE LIMIT
We use a lot of different venues for our events, some of which have age limits. Anyone under the age limit should be accompanied by an adult over 23 years, and will need to fill in a Guardian form, either at the door or by bringing your own filled out copy which can be downloaded here.
All age limits are specified below under Venues.
HOTEL
Borealis has a deal with Heimen Hotel, who look after our guests and artists, and offer a discount for Borealis visitors. Rooms are available from NOK 895 for single room and NOK 1095 for double room per night, breakfast included. You book directly on www.debergenske.no quoting our discount code: 22407.
This code also gives a discount when booking at other De Bergenske hotels – quote the code in their booking system to unlock the discount.

Borealis does not have one permanent venue where we present our festival, you’ll find us all over town!
All venues will be properly marked so you can find us! Several places serve refreshments so you can have a drink before and after the event.
BEK – Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts

BEK – Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts is an interdisciplinary production centre for art and new technology, established in 2000. BEK develops, produces and communicates projects in the intersection of contemporary art, technology, theory and social critique.
Bergen Cathedral

Bergen Cathedral is nearly 900 years old. It started as a church dedicated to Olav the Holy, Norway’s patron saint, around year 1150. Bergen Cathedral has a long and turbulent history – the church was heavily damaged by fire both in 1248 and in 1270, as well as having been hit by a canon ball in 1665 which you can still see up in the spire. It also holds an organ with 61 stops, and multiple of the larger Church choirs of Bergen.
Bergen Internasjonale Kultursenter (Fensal)

Bergen International Culture Center was founded in 1993 as a meeting point for immigrant organisations in Hordaland. Now 29 years later, the center has 70 member organisations, and is an important place for inclusion and cultural exchange in Bergen.
Bergen Kjøtt

Bergen Kjøtt is a culture house and creative workplace for about 100 of Bergen’s professional artists and musicians of different genres. Until the 2000s the house was an operating meat factory, but from 2010 it has been an important cultural institution in the city.
Bergen Kunsthall & Landmark

Refreshments: Landmark Café is open before, during and after the events. Kitchen closes at 16.00. On Friday, Landmark is our festival bar!
Age Limit: No age limit during daytime events, 20+ during evening events at Landmark
The building, which houses both Bergen Kunsthall, Landmark and a nice bookstore, was designed by architect Ole Landmark in the 1930s. Landmark is Bergen Kunsthall’s own café, bar, project room, concert scene and night club, and is a popular place for coffee breaks with an everchanging lunch meny with local produce.
Bergen Public Library (UROM)

Refreshments: Amalies Hage – the library’s own café that serves light meals, coffee and has a good selection of juice.

Our beautiful public library is centrally located between the train station and Bergen Storsenter. This is a popular place for the city’s population to gather for event activity all year.
Cornerteateret (Kongesalen)

Cornerteateret is a production house for the free performing arts field, as well as being a creative stage venue for children and young audiences. The venue accommodates two blackbox halls on the first floor, and a bar and a smaller venue connected to it. The bar is open before and after the performances.
Håkonshallen

Håkonshallen is more than 750 years old and was built by King Håkon Håkonsson between 1247 and 1261 as a royal residence and feasting hall. It’s situated within Bergenhus Fortress located at the end of Bryggen wharf in the heart of the city. In the Middle Ages, the fortress was the royal estate and political centre of 13th century Norway.
Jiennagoahti (Lyttegammen)

We want to make you aware that Jiennagoahti is currently undergoing some renovations on the roof to secure the listening hut against storms and heavy rain.
Like an artwork dedicated to listening, Jiennagoahti is an outdoor and indoor space for the dissemination and learning of indigenous Sami culture, architecture and language for residents of all ages – initiated by artist Elin Már Øyen Vister in dialogue with Sámi architect and artist Joar Nange, as well as Lydgalleriet and Birgon ja biras sámiid searvi / Bergen Sámi association.
Jiennagoáhti is situated on Torrfjellet, accessible by foot, a 10–15 minute walk from the Fløibanen Upper Station. When you exit Fløibanen, go to the Information-sign and take a left, following the direction towards Brushytten. When you see the climbing park, take the sharp bend up to the right, still towards Brushytten. Walk until you see a bench, here you take off onto a wide path. Soon after you’ll see a sign that says Torrfjellet / Jiennagoahti, pointing to a smaller path. Follow it for a couple of minutes, and keep an eye out for chimney smoke on your right hand side.

Kafé Mat & Prat

Kafe Mat & prat is our festival hub and kitchen! The café is a work training programme led by highly skilled chefs, who provide training with kitchen work. In the summer and autumn of 2022, the premises of Mat & Prat were transformed by the artist Sol Calero, as part of the Bergen Assembly art triennial. Her art installations now form a bright and colourful interior in the café. Mat & Prat serves delicious lunches and dinners from around the world to all our artists, staff and volunteers during the festival. It is open to all, Monday 10th – Friday 14th of March between 10.00–19.00.
Kulthurhuset i Bergen (Lillesalen)

The new culture house in Bergen opened its doors in 2021, and has since then invited to a varied and comprehensive programme, with everything from concerts with international and national artists, to art exhibitions, club events, dance shows and workshops.
Laugaren

Laugaren is a floating sauna, cultural arena and meeting place close to USF Verftet in Nordnes. Laugaren aims to be a safe and affordable meeting place for everyone, regardless of background. The association is run on volunteering, and all profits go back to its development. Laugaren is docked in front of Hallen USF, behind USF Verftet.
PRACTICAL INFO AT LAUGAREN
- Wear swimwear in the sauna, and bring your bathrobe if you have one.
- You can change in the changing area that is curtained off inside Laugaren, or under your towel in the common area.
- In order to keep the sauna clean, bring two towels – one to dry yourself off with, and another to sit on.
- Bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated.
- It’s possible to have a dip in the fjord from Laugaren if you need to cool down – but do not swim alone.
- Alcohol is not allowed.
Nordnes Sjøbad

The historical Nordnes Sjøbad is situated in Nordnes Park, not far from the Aquarium, and is a 25 metre outdoor salt water pool kept lovely and warm at a temperature of 30°C (84°F). Here you can enjoy the hot pool, saunas and take a refreshing dip in the sea – all while absorbing the magnificent view!
Norges Fiskerimuseum

Fiskerimuseet is a museum for history of the fisheries and coastal heritage. Located in some of the best preserved seaside warehouses in Bergen, the place acts as a unique cultural memorial from a time when Bergen was the centre of a stockfish trade that spanned the world. Here you will find interactive and playful exhibitions about the fishery and coastal history for people of all ages.
