Borealis is looking for a Head of Production responsible for planning and executing all events during the festival and year-round events.
As Head of Production you will be responsible for the progress, development and implementation of Borealis’ artistic programme and projects, in close collaboration with the Artistic and Managing Director and the rest of the staff. You will help ensure that Borealis’ values and artistic visions are upheld and that the festival presents projects with a high degree of professionalism and responsiveness from the initial brainstorming meeting to the final evaluation.
Borealis has a permanent core staff throughout the year and an expanded festival team from November until the festival in March, in addition to around 100 volunteers during the festival. The position of Head of Production is part of the core staff. The position comes with managerial responsibility for parts of the festival staff who are involved in the running of the festival.
The work will be varied and challenging, requiring independence, accuracy, efficiency, initiative and the ability to work well with others. You must have an interest in and understanding of the music and art we present, and have experience in production, preferably from venues that present different forms of music and art or from the independent field. You must be able to take an active role and responsibility for the progress of both artistic and practical projects.
The working languages are Norwegian and English, and you must have good written and oral communication skills in at least one of these languages. Place of work is Bergen, and evening and weekend work will occur.
Work description
As production manager, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks related to planning, implementing and following up events and areas of responsibility, in close collaboration with artists, performers, partners, suppliers, venues, core staff and other employees.
This includes, but is not limited to tasks such as:
- Developing projects in close collaboration with the Artistic Director and artists/musicians
- Obtaining technical information and requirements from artists, and contacting and placing orders with technical suppliers
- Management of Borealis’ equipment and inventory
- Planning and setting up rehearsal and performance schedules
- Travel bookings
- Mapping and communicating volunteer requirements
- Mapping and organising the festival’s transport and logistics requirements
- Practical implementation of events
- Further development of digital production tools
- Lead and train parts of the festival staff in production work and execution
- Responsibility for project budgets and obtaining price quotes
- Participation in public debates and discussions when relevant, and if the person concerned is comfortable with it

Type of employment and percentage
An 80% position is available. Please indicate in your application if you would prefer a different percentage. The position requires flexibility. In the run-up to the festival, from January to March each year, the position is 100%, while the rest of the year the hours are reduced to a total of 80%.
